Nigeria have invited Henry Onyekuru to replace injured Odion Ighalo ahead of their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa and friendly against Uganda this month.
Ighalo was replaced in the 17th minute after suffering a hamstring injury in Changchun Yatai’s 2-2 draw against Tianjin Quanjian in Wednesday’s Chinese Super League game.
Onyekuru who was initially placed on standby has now be invited to fill the spot left by the former Watford player – scorer of five goals in the Super Eagles’ double-header fixture against Libya in September.
Ighalo’s blow doubles the worry for coach Gernot Rohr ahead of the west Africans’ trip to the FNB Stadium on November 17 after losing first-choice goalkeeper Francis Uzoho to injury earlier in the week.
Nigeria sit at the summit of Group E and will hope to extend their winning run when they meet Bafana Bafana. They face Uganda in a friendly game at the Stephen Keshi Stadium on November 20.
